The Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Academic Student Advisor position.

Nature of Work:

The Academic Student Advisor is responsible for coordinating the advising process and implementing new student services strategies to increase student retention and to optimize the student's overall experience while enrolled in a program operated by the Distance Degrees and Programs (DDP) office. In addition, the Academic Student Advisor will enthusiastically and expertly advance our culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to reinforce our aspiration goals of equity in all aspects of education, science and health care.

Distance Degrees and Programs

The DDP office operates educational programs for working healthcare professionals through combined distance-based and on-campus formats. Currently the DDP office coordinates three-degree programs and one graduate certificate program for the SSPPS. In addition, the DDP office collaborates on one-degree program, one graduate certificate program, and one fellowship with the University of Colorado Denver Graduate School See below for a current list of programs.
    North American-Trained PharmD (NTPD) Program – The NTPD Program is designed for North American working pharmacists with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy to earn their PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree. International-Trained PharmD (ITPD) Program – The ITPD Program is designed for international working pharmacists with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy to earn their PharmD degree. Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Pharmacy – This master's program is designed for pharmacists who would like to advance their practice toward patient-centered pharmacy care. Cannabis Science and Medicine (CSM) Graduate Certificate Program – A graduate certificate program aimed at offering science-based applications for cannabis products. Master of Science in Palliative Care (MSPC) Program, Interprofessional Palliative Care Graduate Certificate (IPCGC) Program, and Community Based-Hospice and Palliative Medicine (CB-HPM) Fellowship – The MSPC, IPCGC, and CB-HPM programs educate licensed physicians, nurses (including BSN and advanced practice nurses), physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers, spiritual care providers, psychologists, therapists, counselors and ethicists to receive a master's degree or graduate certificate specializing in palliative care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Advising - .60FTE (24 hours per week)
    Maintain current knowledge of all program academic requirements, policies and procedures to help facilitate each student's success. Create a welcoming environment with students when conducting individual advising, which includes: Complete advising calls as needed while students are enrolled in his/her respective program. Educating students about each program's curriculum and developing an academic plan, which defines how students complete each program's requirements. Email to students their academic plans and update plans in office database systems. Communicating program specific policies and procedures; identifying's the outcome when students do not adhere to program specific policies and procedures.
Serve as the student's first point-of-contact while the student is enrolled in his/her respective program, which includes: Monitor each student's progress within his/her program; providing additional resources to students if concerns about academic success are identified. Define if students met program requirement to graduate form his/her respective program and create alternative advising plans if students do not meet the requirements within program and University driven deadlines. Serve as a student advocate, when needed, if a student's academic performance is presented at a school committee; communicate and initiate follow-up items a student may complete as determined by a committee. For NTPD and ITPD students only: Identifying Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotation needs based on program requirements; defining the rotation types and timeframes; describing and answering questions about the APPE rotation process. Collaborating with the Office of Experiential Programs (OEP) by informing OEP each student's rotation needs. Communicating final rotation type, site and timeframe with students once confirmed by OEP. For NTPD students only, counsel students about the credit-by-challenge process when evaluating each student's work experience. For MS in Clinical Pharmacy students: Identifying internship experiential needs based on program requirements, while collaborating with the OEP. Be accessible and available to students to respond to their questions and concerns; be knowledgeable about and refer students to appropriate program and SSPPS resources and services.
Student Services - .40FTE (16 hours per week)
    Commencement – Lead office support in organizing May, August, and December graduation and commencement activities, including: participate on monthly, campus-wide commencement steering committee, service as a DDP Office representative for SSPPS' Office of Student Services May commencement activities, coordinate post-commencement close out process, and other administrative duties as defined. Project Support – Support student services-based projects in conjunction with the Academic Services Coordinator. Operations Provide general administrative support and participate in commencement and orientation activities. Review and coordinate revisions to advising documents prior to the start of each semester. Track advising calls completed on a semester basis to be used as program research initiatives. In conjunction with appropriate DDP staff, plan, develop coordinate and implement advising procedures. Participate in the operational planning process to identify advising procedural and student activity improvements.
Provide cross coverage for members of the student services team on an as needed basis. Other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:
  • The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $44,404 - $56,482
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business, education, communications, public health administration or a closely related field.
  • A professional background relevant to the position with at least one (1) year of experience working with college students in an academic or career services counseling capacity.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire

Preferred Qualifications:
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university degree in education, pharmacy, public health administration or closely related field. Experience in supporting faculty and diverse student population in a higher education setting. Experience with course management systems, such as E*Value and Canvas.
