This opportunity manages complex tax and compliance projects by:

  • delegating and overseeing tasks and project activities (for example, product links, item taxability) across cross-functional teams (for example, Universal Product Code team, Merchandising teams);
  • monitoring and supervising project workload, deadlines, and completion of all project tasks;
  • monitoring associate adherence to defined compliance work processes; researching and staying up-to-date on tax laws and compliance regulations for ongoing tax and audit related projects;
  • coordinating the distribution of tax code reference guides and application advice to team members and stakeholders;
  • organizing, reviewing, and analyzing sales tax and account data from company financial systems (for example, Document Direct, FACT, Retail Link, SAP, Fuel Quest, Zytax, One Source);
  • communicating tax collection histories to stakeholders; collaborating with business units to develop solutions to critical tax needs (for example, Temp Wires)

Supports and maintains company tax payment and collection policies and processes (for example, compliance, audit) by

  • managing the specialty tax data collection process; creating and reviewing tax matrices; obtaining missing or incomplete tax data from departments, vendors, and customers; maintaining state specific tax knowledge to manage the evaluation and review of tax accruals;
  • partnering with stakeholders to determine opportunities for sales tax credits and ensuring application;
  • determining options for tax payment;
  • ensuring credits are taken in accordance with state and local regulations; recovering refunds;
  • tracking daily support activities; providing guidance to associates ( for example, Accountant I) in tax payment and collection processes; responding to state tax inquiries;
  • and advising internal and external Customers on company tax compliance practices.

Supports and maintains tax compliance and procedural documentation by sharing and updating stakeholders with process information (for example, Specialty tax audit team); researching, identifying and communicating process irregularities to management; communicating Tax Department strategy to internal and external Customers; and supporting internal Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) audit processes within the Specialty tax Department.

Supports department training and mentoring initiatives by developing and facilitating team training sessions; responding to questions and information requests from team members; creating and updating training documents; identifying individual training needs; and providing one-on-one training and mentoring to associates.

Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.

Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.
