Wood Worker - Logistics duties include but not limited to:
The Wood Worker - Logistics falls under the carpentry shop of Logistics. The section will be led by a Supply tech and no less than ten woodworkers within the shop. The primary objective is to support the APS 3 programs across the site and build necessary projects as demanded by the customer. The shop will be responsible to operate on short time frame to execute no notice missions that support the ship of materials. Ability to handle a variety of tools, knowledge of safety and the ability to read blueprints and adjust accordingly to accomplish mission
Responsibilities of the Position:
- Testing wood sles for moisture content and other physical properties to ensure that it is suitable for use in a product.
- Operating machines such as saws, shapers, sanders, routers, planers, and jointers to cut wood materials into usable pieces.
- Measuring materials to determine where cuts should be made and using other tools to mark the placement of holes or other features on materials.
- Preparing sketches of design ideas for customers or employers to help them visualize their finished product before starting construction.
- Maintaining a safe work environment by following safety regulations and wearing appropriate safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, glasses, and earplugs
- Cutting boards, cabinets, doors, staircases, window frames, molding, and other wood products according to blueprints or verbal instructions from supervisors
- Repairing damaged wood items by replacing broken pieces or sanding scratches off surfaces
- Sanding and staining wood surfaces to prepare them for finishing or applying protective coatings such as varnish or lacquer.
- Measuring and cutting wood to specified lengths using handsaws, power miter saws, circular saws, table saws, and other power tools.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of power tools
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Working knowledge of Army class of supply system and National Stock numbers (NSN/NIIN) is a plus as well as solid background in Material Management
- Significant wood working
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and ensure completion of all tasks involved
- High School diploma or equivalent
Required Qualifications:
- US Citizen
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to obtain and maintain local base access
- Possess valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License
- Ability to comply with all established methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position.
- Proven experience in wood working environment.
- Other duties assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing - between 2 to 3 hours per day
- Walking - between 4 to 5 hours per day
- Lifting - up to 35 lbs. periodically
- Squatting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and climbing - periodically
- Work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments
