Job Description:

The Area Rehabilitation Supervisor has broad responsibilities for interpreting the Rehabilitation Program throughout an area. Area Supervisor supervises rehabilitation staff, develops long-range plans to meet rehabilitation program needs, provides quality assurance regarding rehabilitation casework, develops liaison with other institutions and agencies involved in rehabilitation. He/she works with State level program staff in the development of staff job development program. He/she oversees the development of the comprehensive area job development program. He/she also assumes the responsibilities of coordinating and implementing the ILR Program which includes all individuals of any age whose blindness creates an impediment to independent living. The Area Rehabilitation Supervisor also assists with implementing, coordinating and supervising staff in Transition Programs in some District Offices.

Job responsibilities include the following:
  • Supervises rehabilitation staff 
  • Develops long-range plans to meet rehabilitation program needs 
  • Provides quality assurance regarding rehabilitation casework 
  • Develops liaison with other institutions and agencies involved in rehabilitation 
  • Works with State level program staff in the development of staff job development program 
  • Oversees the development of the comprehensive area job development program 
  • Assumes the responsibilities of coordinating and implementing the ILR Program which includes all individuals of any age whose blindness creates an impediment to independent living
This position requires supervisory experience as defined below:
Supervision is the primary function of the job and should reflect in 50% of their work time.
Directing activities of a group of employees (3 or more) and accountable for their work, evaluation of performance and competencies, make hiring decisions, train employees and resolve problems.

  • Through understanding of the vocational rehabilitation and the independent living process 
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws governing these programs
  • Considerable Knowledge of the services available through the Division of Services for the Blind’s various programs and support services 
  • Knowledge of community resources available to individuals who are visually impaired and/or blind. 
  • Knowledge of eye disorders and issues related to vision loss
  • Ability to complete performance reviews and quality assurance procedures. 
  • Ability to inspire staff to attain goals and pursue excellence 
  • Ability to approve staff members’ time and travel reports in a conscientious and timely manner. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with Federal, State, and l local agencies, consumers, the public and private service providers
  • Knowledge of DHHS and DSB policies
Management Preference:
  • At least four years of experience as an independent rehabilitation counselor 
  • At least one year of supervision of rehabilitation services
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the subject's own body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

*In order to be considered for this position you must attach a copy of your transcripts*Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, or a closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience as an independent counselor to include one year of supervisory experience;
OR
Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and four years of experience as an independent counselor to include one year of supervisory experience;
OR
