Summary This position is located at the Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC), in the organization of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), serving as a Cashier in the Cash Management Department in Middleton, WI. The CPAC is a regionally consolidated business entity established to enhance revenue operations throughout the VHA network by standardization and consolidation of functions, and the integration of VHA and industry practices. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Major Duties and Responsibilities Include: Performs work in support of the agency's cash processing operations which involve the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody and other clerical or administrative tasks. Receives and/or disburses cash in accordance with the corresponding laws, rules, and regulations for the transaction. Ensures the fulfillment of regulatory requirements associated with depository functions. Utilizes the computerized system to record transactions. Exercises responsibility for the direct support of agency cash/check/electronic funds transfer processing functions involving the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody and other clerical processing of cash. Manages and is accountable for any loss or shortages of funds under your control of the Treasury Department; Examines and performs quality audits of deposits in order to ensure regulatory issues are met, reconciles cash accountability, and reviews vouchers for completeness, accuracy and propriety before making payment, referring questionable vouchers for audit prior to disbursement; Ensures conformance to procedures and instructions contained in the Department of Treasury Manual of Procedures and Instructions for Cashiers. Processes cash-link deposits and e-payments in a timely manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6: Must have one (1) or more years of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of this Cashier position and that is related to the position. Qualifying specialized experience includes: Experience with accounting, budget, and/or financial management operations and procedures in a health care organization; experience with insurance/medical terminology or accounting terminology/accounting basics; cash handling experience; experience examining and performing quality audits of deposits; and experience processing electronic payments or conducting online transactions. Education There is no educational substitution at this grade level. Additional Information Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is performed in a normal office environment. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
