Summary of the Compliance Consultant

The Compliance Consultant defines and executes product compliance strategies, policies, and processes to ensure that the company s products meet regulatory standards and compliance certifications are obtained and maintained (e. g., CEHRT). They work closely with regulatory agencies and is the technical subject matter expert for regulatory compliance. They also participate in product design reviews, identify and interpret applicable regulatory standards and requirements, and provide guidance and training to prevent compliance issues from the initial product design throughout production and delivery of the final product. They Compliance Consultant may assist in the development of testing tools and product test plans to ensure effective compliance testing. They will coordinate both internal testing and testing at outside labs, certification labs and maintains all documentation as well as ensure suppliers comply with domestic and international requirements.


Responsibilities of the Compliance Consultant

  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments in the Behavioral Health and Primary Care industries.
  • Assess future product development efforts to identify possible compliance risks
  • Work collaboratively with Product to design new features/functionality and workflows that maintain industry compliance regulation
  • Assess and monitor software platform features and functionality for compliance gaps and work with Product on a compliance plan to reduce identified gaps
  • Maintain a matrix of regulatory requirements and how each platform meets compliance
  • Create and maintain a matrix of Federal Reporting requirements, deadlines, and current product status
  • Monitor product compliance email distribution for reported concerns or questions and escalate as appropriate
  • Assist with compliance consulting
  • Participate in the Best Practice Workflow teams, ensuring Best Practices are in compliance with state and federal clinical practices and limits compliance risks
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of MU/PI, CQM compliance end-user guides for multiple platforms
  • Monitor Partner/Customer Forums or list servs to identify areas of clinical compliance needs
  • Maintain matrix of regulatory clinical requirements and how each platform meets compliance
  • Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of information requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Devise solutions based on limited information and precedent and adapts existing approaches to resolve issues
  • Use evaluation, judgment, and interpretation to select right course of action. Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points.
  • Enhance relationships and networks with senior internal/external partners who are not familiar with the subject matter often requiring persuasion
  • Adapt style to differing audiences and often advises others on difficult matters


Qualifications of the Compliance Consultant

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor s degree; or 3 years and a master s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of the Compliance Consultant

  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, MIPS/MACRA, CCBHC, FQHC, MU/PI, and ONC certification and other Federally defined regulations and policies impacting Behavioral Health and EHRs
  • Have a SME level of knowledge in the use of EHR software platform(s) currently supported
