Perform research and development and construction management in the areas of physical protection against attacks on facilities overseas.

**For Future and Ongoing Needs**


Includes the following:

  • Performs research, development, test and evaluation on forced entry, ballistic, vehicle anti-ram and blast resistant technologies, materials and designs and construction systems.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on protective design standards and protective materials, and construction methods for existing structures, buildings under construction, and new building designs.
  • Performs research and development and construction management in the areas of physical protection against attacks on Department facilities overseas.
  • Provides guidance with regard to blast effects vulnerabilities and protective designs on existing structures and facilities under design and construction.
  • Provides guidance with regard to Forced Entry and Ballistic Resistance (FE/BR) vulnerabilities and protective design on existing structures and facilities under design and construction.
  • Provides technical support at blast mitigation, forced entry and ballistic testing.
  • Provides expertise in the field of structural engineering research involving design and construction of structures in the area of blast mitigation, computer modeling of structures and the effects of structures due to dynamic loading.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


No management/supervisory authority.


Bachelor of Science, Engineering Technology/Construction Management from an accredited university is required and 5 to 7 years of applied field work with a DOS recognized testing agency, specific experience in and related to the design, fabrication, and construction of FE/BR and blast mitigation systems; preferably within a federal setting.


  • Skilled in the improvement of anti-ram vehicle barriers to provide setback from vehicle bombs.
  • User-level ability and skills in CAD, USAGE Blast modeling software (BlastX), Graphing/plotting, and office productivity software.
  • Skilled in the development of new designs of improved building elements for forced entry and ballistic resistance protection.
  • Expert knowledge in designing blast resistant buildings, new construction projects, and designing and implementing blast mitigation measures for existing facilities.
  • Must have a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation & drug screening.


Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment.

TEMPORARY NOTE: On Tuesday, Dec. 7, a federal judge issued an injunction blocking President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors (EO 14042). Cherokee Federal is monitoring the court case and awaiting a final ruling. As a result of the injunction, Cherokee Federal is halting the enforcement of the mandate, however, if the injunction is lifted and the mandate remains, Cherokee Federal must reenact its vaccine requirement.
