SMX is seeking an experienced AWS Customer Solution Architect (CSA) with extensive knowledge of AWS service offerings, architecture patterns, and capabilities. In this role the CSA will be expected to support SMX’s deal pipeline through early-stage solutioning with customers and the development of proposals and statements of work (SOW’s) to support deal closure. CSA’s must be familiar with all SMX service offerings (resale, managed services, professional services, digital transformation, etc.) and be able to effectively articulate these solutions and their value propositions to customers. In addition to pre-sales support, our CSA’s may also be asked to provide billable delivery support with customers and must possess sufficient technical depth to be able to deliver solutions effectively.
The successful candidate will be capable of communicating experience transforming or re-inventing legacy applications leveraging cloud technology and of helping customers develop their vision and roadmap. The ideal candidate will have both a business background that enables them to interact effectively at the executive level, as well as a technical background to drive engagement work with both our engineering teams and customer teams. A successful candidate for this role must be comfortable working in both delivery and pre-sales capacities. The ability to design solutions for customers with incomplete information and documenting those solutions in the form of Statements of Work (SOWs) is a must.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Take direction from, and provide clear and timely updates to delivery and/or sales leadership
Deep knowledge in core AWS capabilities (EC2, S3, VPC, DevOps, etc.)
Working knowledge of AWS funding programs, incentive structures, and overall go-to-market approach
Facilitate white-boarding architecture sessions to help customers understand complex architectures and concepts
Participate as a team player capable of high performance and flexibility in a dynamic working environment
Be capable of effective prioritization and able to handle multiple sales opportunities at one
Actively participate in the development and review of business and system requirements to obtain a thorough understanding of customer needs in order to deliver accurate solutions
Develop Statements of Work (SOWs) and Level of Effort (LOE) estimations for new projects
Serve as a technical SME for key customers and be able to contribute to on-going delivery efforts for select customers as needed
Architect solutions to complex client challenges to support their broader cloud adoption objectives
Achieve and maintain AWS certifications (specifically Solutions Architect – Professional)
Required Skills:
Extensive hands-on experience with CloudFormation, AWS CLI, IAM, EC2, and other common AWS tools coupled with a desire to continue to provide hands-on support as needed
Ability to dissect a technical architecture into engineering plans and discrete tasks
Ability to lead and mentor more junior architects and cloud engineers
A strong desire to contribute to the overall growth and scale of the organization by contributing to the sales process, interviewing technical candidates, and developing deep customer relationships
Experience working in agile development environments; experience with Scrum Process
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Customer-focused attitude
Ability to travel up to 25%
Required Experience:
10+ years of professional experience in technology
5+ years of relevant hands-on experience with AWS
AWS Solution Architect Professional or specialty-track certifications
