DATA CENTER ANALYST

- Will need to have the basics down (cabling, racking and stacking, etc) in addition to "Project Manager light" work (run meetings, interface with customers)
- Some migrations may last up to a year, but various projects they will be working on
- planned work on 2-3 Saturdays a month
- reliability and flexibility is key, will be on rotation for on call/fire call coverage about once a month
- OT eligible
- primarily based in be on site in Rochelle. Ideally should live in area.


Data Center Analyst

1. Project Overview:
Primarily located in to Rochelle, IL. Mix of multiple projects, launch projects (1-2 months or longer, some 6+ months), day to day responsibilities troubleshooting Servicenow tickets.

2. Contractor’s Role:
• Perform data center operations and basic system administration duties.
• Racking of servers, network devices and other equipment.
• Cabling, clean cable routing and cable management.
• Handling and resolving tasks provided via a ticket tracking system in ServiceNow.
• Data center logistics, assisting with shipping, provisioning and decommissioning processes.
• Hardware problem identification and resolution, working with hardware vendor support teams and submitting RMA requests.
• Assist with asset and inventory management of hardware and data center supplies.
• Respond to incidents around connectivity, power, and assist other teams with troubleshooting of devices.
• Emergency response to system outages outside working hours.
• Will utilize telecommunications test equipment, specifically Fluke network testers, t-berd, network analyzers, carrier circuit test gear capable of Ethernet/DWDM/SONET and cable media testers.
• Will need to design and plan for new builds and migrations independently.
• Conducting meetings with customers and platform teams to gather requirements of projects and be able to fully implement.
• Manage projects via internal processes and utilization of ServiceNow.
• Manage inventory and data center layout in a DCIM tool.
• Must be able to complete all work with a high level of precision, there will be little to no tolerance for causing outages.
• Will occasionally be the only person on-site, and will need to be able to resolve most issues without assistance.
• Regular weekend coverage for change windows, 2-3 weekends a month. Occasional weekday implementations weekday nights after 7pm.

3. Experience Level:
Senior, 5+ years of experience in a data center.

4. Qualifications:
Hard Skills:
• Knowledge of structured cabling and cable management
• Ability to run projects with multiple teams independently (work volume is 90+% project based, and about 10% incident)
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Need to be able to lift 50lbs or more, crawl, and climb.
• Be able to troubleshoot data center infrastructure effectively (power & connectivity)

6. Tasks & responsibilities:
• Previous experience working hands-on in a complex high availability data center environment.
• Ability to run projects and meetings independently, project management experience is desired.
• Basic background on enterprise data center facility infrastructure including Power/Cooling/Fire suppression/Security-Access Control.
• Knowledge in structured cabling concepts and best practices are required for the role as many projects and initiatives will primarily be physical layer implementations.
• A strong working knowledge of data center processes and design (power, cooling, redundancy).
• Hands on expertise of midrange systems in large scale (1000+ servers) environments- IBM, Client & Dell server hardware.
• Ability to document complex problem resolution summaries and repetitive tasks through online ticketing system .
• Experience with ServiceNow.
• Ability to demonstrate effective team and interpersonal skills.
• Very strong communication, writing and interpersonal skills. Will need to interface with many customers, teams and vendors to drive projects and incident resolution in a professional and effective manner.
• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
• Expertise with day-to-day data center operation tasks, including rack/stack, understanding of switch/port configurations, hardware decommissioning
• Also experience with Data Center incident resolution, asset management, and logistics
• Critical thinking and decision making related to outage risk assessment
• Extensive experience with electrical systems/cabling installation work, structured cabling and cable management.
• Must know and be able to work on all cabling technologies including but not limited to CAT6a, multimode and single mode 2 strand and MPO cabling, and device transceivers.
• Ability to be on your feet all day, work 2-3 weekends a month, and occasionally work weekday nights after 7pm.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
• Familiarity with DCIM tools such as Nlyte, Trellis, etc.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols, WAN, LAN, SAN, voice technologies.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects and initiatives in a very dynamic environment and be able to properly prioritize
