The Day Program Trainer performs complex habilitation work involving implementation and evaluation of therapeutic programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a structured setting. Responsibilities include performing structured therapeutic activities, providing assistance and training in personal hygiene, food preparation and feeding, mobility and community access, recreation and leisure activities, and maintenance of basic health care needs. Position also provides transportation services on a daily basis using a multi-passenger van, and serves as member of interdisciplinary team. The Day Program Trainer must be knowledgeable of techniques used in teaching adaptive living skills, and planning and monitoring the social activities of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Must possess the ability to assess individuals functional levels and to facilitate productive interactions between individuals and staff. Must be able to observe and delineate salient aspects of situational behaviors. Must have the ability to document individuals progress and significant events in a clear and concise manner. And be able to exercise reasonable judgement to ensure the health and safety of individuals.

High School Diploma or GED, plus six (6) months of work experience. Must have a valid driver s license and an acceptable driving record, as well as personal automobile liability insurance as required by the state of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of work experience in a rehabilitation setting serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Working computer skills, including Microsoft Word.
