EMT-B Training (Rookie School)
Through a partnership with South Arkansas Community College (https://www.metroems.org/admin/pages/page/49/change/South%20Arkansas%20Community%20College) , MEMS is able to offer college level training at our headquarters facility. MEMS EMT-B training, otherwise known as Rookie School, is usually held 3 times each year as staffing needs occur.

To be considered for MEMS EMT Rookie School, you must meet these requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Arkansas driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Minimum age of 19
Must be physically fit and able to pass a physical examination
Must have acceptable scores on a college placement exam- one option is the Accuplacer exam which is offered onsite at MEMS at no cost.
Must be admissible to SACC
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
Must pass a criminal background check
Please note: Due to CMS mandates, all MEMS employees in positions providing patient care must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Suitable and qualified candidates are selected for Rookie School and are paid an hourly rate of $11.00 per hour while going through our full-time, eight week in-house EMT training. After successful completion and obtaining an Arkansas State and National License, full-time employment is continued and graduates are eligible to bid for a full-time shift and be a part of an ambulance crew.
Licensed EMTs, with no experience, receive a starting base annual salary of $32,000 with full benefits (Hourly rate is calculated based on shifts assigned). After 1 year of service, base pay increases to $34,340.
