What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Program Manager 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

As a Program Manager 1/2, you will be responsible for documenting, tracking, and ensuring that program deliverables are being completed on schedule. This will involve creating work packages, developing budget allocations, and preparing reports. This role requires working with technical personnel to de?ne the scope, schedule, and budget and ensuring required activities are executed and tracked appropriately (e.g., portfolio financials and strategic projects). Under supervisory direction, this role will provide leadership, vision, and strategic and tactical planning for execution of an assigned portfolio consisting of small programs impacting multiple organizations. Under supervisory direction, this person will integrate program work with other Laboratory priorities and commitments, including safety, security environmental compliance, quality, contractor assurance, and business imperatives.

Program Manager 1 ($87,200 - $142,500)

The Program Manager 1 will be required to:

  • Under supervisory direction, create work packages, develop budget allocations and prepare reports.

  • Manage portfolio of small programs impacting multiple organizations.

  • Under supervisory direction, interface with programs, technical subject matter experts and weapons engineers for technical input in estimate development.

Program Manager 2 ($105,700 – $176,400)

The Program Manager 2 will be required to:

  • Create work packages, develop budget allocations and prepare reports.

  • Manage portfolio of small and medium sized programs impacting multiple organizations.

  • Interface with programs, technical subject matter experts and weapons engineers for technical input in estimate development.

Program Management

Entry-Level knowledge of and experience in program management of technical or operational work, including defining program work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones; developing cost, scope, and schedule baselines; reporting cost and schedule variance; and managing change control and risk.

Project Control & Scheduling

Ability to manage cost and schedule commitments for projects or programs. Entry-Level knowledge and demonstrated ability in applying project controls principles, including cost and performance reporting, variance analysis and use of cost and schedule tools.

Communication & Teamwork

Experience interacting effectively with personnel at all levels, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflict. Ability to support cross?organization teams to ensure complex technologies or products are delivered within budget and on schedule. Ability to successfully support multiple teams or projects simultaneously. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Excellent customer service skills, friendly and positive communicator, and empathetic customer relator. Ability to evaluate a problem and generate ways to overcome the problem.

Job Requirements for Program Manager 2:

Qualification at the higher level requires:

Education

At the Program Manager 1 level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related technical and project management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

At the Program Manager 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related technical and project management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of LANL financial policies and principles including forecasting and resource loading.

  • Familiarity with scheduling tools, such as P6.

  • Experience working with the Weapons Engineering and Weapons Physics organizations at LANL.

  • Knowledge of LANL Weapons Facility Operations and their functions.

  • Entry-Level knowledge of nuclear weapons, NNSA facilities, or DoD customers that support the U.S. stockpile.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering.

  • Active DOE “Q” or other Top Secret clearance; or the ability to obtain an active Q-Clearance.

  • Training/Certifications: Project Management Professional from Project Management Institute is desired.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
