- Serve as Team Leader and assist in the development and implementation of projects related to environmental monitoring on and around the Savannah River Site (SRS) for the Environmental Affairs, Bureau of Environmental Health Services Midlands-Aiken office Environmental Surveillance and Oversight Program (ESOP).
- Direct and supervise staff of in the Environmental Affairs, Bureau of Environmental Health Services, Midlands-Aiken ESOP.
- Support management in planning, monitoring, scheduling, and auditing staff performance, accuracy, workload distribution, and program needs regarding project management duties involved in the development and implementation of ESOP Projects.
- Complete Employee Performance and Management System documents and other administrative requirements in a timely manner.
- Provide technical assistance and field support to ESOP project managers as needed to help complete project requirements.
- Serves as an ERT member, rotates on-call and responds to environmental emergencies.
- Attend training opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to environmental monitoring.
- Perform all functions in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures manual.
- Complete all necessary administrative tasks and documentation as required and requested.
- Perform other duties as required, which includes attending periodic staff meetings and training.
- A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field;
- OR an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and four (4) years of environmental health or related experience;
- OR high school diploma and six (6) years of environmental health or related experience.
*These fields include but are not limited to branches relating to Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, etc.
Institutions of higher learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

- Ascend/descend ladders and transport equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Traverse and work on complex terrain.
- Conduct field tests using delicate instruments and chemicals. To ensure personal safety, this requires care, precision, and the ability to steadily grasp and hold equipment, instruments, and chemicals in field environment.
- For the safety of the employee, the safety of others, and to comply with OSHA regulations, this position requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to include, but not limited to, boots, safety glasses, and gloves.
- May require:
- Daily travel throughout the state.
- Occasional overnight travel.
- Participation on the Environmental Response Team and is subject to on call or call back 24/7.
- Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Driving Record: This position will require the operation of a state vehicle; therefore, any applicant must be able to travel daily throughout the state as program or region workloads demand.
