The UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP) a new research center exploring psychedelics as tools for understanding the brain and mind, enhancing well-being, and deepening spirituality.
Our work has three key pillars; 1) world-leading academic research into the role and nature of psychedelics, 2) a best-in-class training program for psychedelic-assisted therapists, and 3) an agenda-setting program of public education & journalism about psychedelic science, history, politics, culture, and therapeutic value.
The BCSP is overseen by its Executive Director (ED), who reports to our Executive Committee (EC) of core faculty members.
This new position of Executive Assistant provides comprehensive support primarily to the ED, and also to the EC when required, by managing calendars and schedules, conducting desk research, liaising with stakeholders, being responsible for critical administrative duties, all with a high degree of confidentiality. In the course of their work with the BCSP, the Executive Assistant will likely interface with and work on all aspects of BCSP's mission.

- Proactively manages the Executive Director's schedule, including organizing meetings, liaising with key stakeholders, and planning travel. Performs research on behalf of the Executive Director, including obtaining background for key meetings, finding statistics and resources to support communications, and finding details for important stakeholders. Performs key administrative tasks for the Executive Director, including performing basic financial analyses, filing expenses, and complying with UC Berkeley policies. Manages communications with key stakeholders on behalf of the BCSP, providing accurate information about the Center's work, personnel, or strategy as required. Provides administrative and clerical support to the BCSP's Executive Committee, including processing expenses, and scheduling meetings. Supports the information governance of the BCSP by maintaining a robust and responsive digital file infrastructure, which also safeguards our confidentiality requirements. Organizes important meetings and provides succinct, detailed minutes of those meetings as an accurate record. Helps plan & deliver online and in-person public or stakeholder events on behalf of the BCSP, and provides logistical support. Responds to emails, phone calls, and other correspondence on behalf of the ED or EC. May participate in contract negotiation and the preparation of RFPs requiring some subject matter knowledge of the materials/services. Edits and proofreads written materials to ensure accuracy & consistency.
- Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes including word processing, and spreadsheets. Good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task, and time management skills. Detailed operational knowledge of modern digital tools required for organizational support (e.g., Zoom, Doodle, GSuite, etc). Knowledge of how to track finances, and conduct basic financial analyses through spreadsheet functions.
- Interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel. Ability to manage conflicting demands and prioritize appropriately.
Salary & Benefits
- This is a full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly. The hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $25.65 (step 1.0) - $30.07 (step 8.0).
