Please Note: This position requires annual travel of approximately 30-35%. Due to a unique robot upgrade project, travel for this position from June, 2023 – October, 2023 will be higher (approximately 75% domestic). Applicants must be able and willing to travel this increased frequency in the coming months. Once the robot upgrade project is complete, travel for the role will return to 30% - 35%.

Job Summary:

A Field Service Engineer provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation, training and general post-sales support, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. This is an end user-facing position integrated with Engineering, Product Support, and Program Management. The position provides technical support to multiple design teams and support of systems directly with end user. The role will also assist with customer repair operations and may require extensive travel, including theater of operations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary post-sales end user technical support contact, promote and sell additional field support services, provide in-field support and training, plus feedback to end users.

  • Support fielded systems and gather product failure data, deficiencies and desired updates, and work to create end user pull for more robotic systems and capabilities.

  • Support customer test events and evaluations (PQT, LUT, Val/Ver, etc.).

  • Support user evaluations of new and unreleased products, provide feedback to design teams as end user representative.

  • Communicate deficiencies, desired updates, and configuration change requests of product.

  • Manage prototype assets, including failure analysis and repair and associated inventory.

  • Support BOM development & build process documentation.

  • Write/review test procedures and perform testing, support failure review and corrective action implementation.

  • Checks out and approves operational quality of system equipment.

  • Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of the system.

  • Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.

  • Interprets customers’ needs and clarifies if the responsibility for problem resolution falls to sales personnel, customer support reps, or engineers.

  • Technical support to the end user and customer: demonstrate/describe how user and robot CONOPS come together to achieve missions, answer questions, perform demonstrations, explain best use of the product, capture extended CONOPS and additional mission uses implemented by end user.

  • Support development of CONOPS and associated requirements, support development of the outline for and review Operation, Technical & Maintenance Manuals, and the outline for and review Training, Manual & Maintenance Concepts.

  • Delivers and conducts operator and maintenance training to customers.

  • System de-processing, integration and fielding.

  • Fault detection and isolation.

  • Organizational level maintenance and repair.

  • Installation of software technical updates.

  • Maintain accurate records of robot repairs and configurations in accordance with customer program requirements.

  • No evidence of Failure (NEOF) analysis and disposition.

  • Spares inventory and control.

  • Provide New Equipment Training (NET).

  • Support US Department of Defense, domestic first-responder, and International field testing/training exercises.

Job Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ year(s) related experience or High School and 8+ year(s) related experience.

  • Strong mechanical / electrical / systems background to support troubleshooting, evaluation, and repair.

  • Familiarity with the DoD supply and maintenance systems preferred.

  • Training development experience preferred.

  • Customer service and product support skills; be able to communicate effectively in support of highly technical products.

  • Some Network Configuration experience.

  • Have or obtain a valid US Passport and Driver’s License.

  • Ability to follow procedures, critical thinking, process improvement and a strong familiarity with military technical manuals.

  • Ability to develop written procedures and documentation.

  • Must be able to obtain a current DOD Secret Security Clearance as a minimum.

  • Able and willing to travel 30% - 35% domestic and international.

  • Able and willing to support US Department of Defense field training.

  • Work locations can vary from indoor lab setup to outdoor test areas to military desert / wooded training zones.
