I am working with a group that is a leader in the manufacturing and development of furniture and other wood products?for their target market. It is well-positioned for increased profitability and poised to grow even more quickly with the leadership and support of the right?President.

With revenues exceeding $80M, the Company is located north of the San Francisco Bay area and is a division of a middle market Corporation based in the Midwest. The Company is a market leading brand and preferred channel partner to dealers and OEM’s. It employs roughly 110 employees and operates two facilities in the US and Canada. The Company’s strategic initiatives focus on market growth, product portfolio expansion, strategic sourcing and operational excellence.

The Company is backed by a Private Equity Partner based in the Midwest. This Private Equity Firm is a leading middle market private equity firm focused on growth-oriented investments in targeted sectors within the Industrial products, Consumer Products, and Business Services sectors. The firm partners with experienced management teams and entrepreneurs to transform businesses through organic growth initiatives, acquisitions and operational and strategic improvements.

Reporting to the CEO, the?VP & General Manager will be responsible for the broad operational efficiency of the Company, as well as leading the company’s overall strategic direction, customer acquisition efforts, and?financial performance. He/she will effectively leverage the people, process, and technology necessary to enable this successful, entrepreneurial company to scale while improving profitability levels, customer satisfaction, and the Company’s culture.

The successful candidate will be a commercially oriented, broad-based businessperson with strategic insight/vision and with at least 15 years of progressive leadership and general management experience. The bulk of his/her foundation should be in roles focused on building vs. maintaining organizations. In addition, this individual will have prior leadership experience in a well-regarded, multisite industrial company known for continuous improvement and developing operationally minded leaders. The GM will have a sound technical background and skilled in devising/deploying strategy/tactics in sales and operations.

It is critical that this leader be detail oriented, a player-coach (a “doer” and a “leader”), with the ability to manage change and competing/changing priorities. He/she will have strong relationship building skills, be open to group dialogue/debate, and have a demonstrated track record of delivering results. He/she will possess strong drive and perseverance, despite obstacles, have a willingness to speak up and share options, be comfortable in a flat, non-bureaucratic business, and be self-confident with a proper level of humility.

General Manager Key responsibilities include:

  • Advancing?the culture of the Company with a strong sense of urgency
  • Develop strategic plans for optimized productivity
  • Review and improve organizational effectiveness by developing processes, overseeing employees, establishing a highly motivated work environment, and creating innovative approaches for improvement
  • Uphold standards of excellence and quality
  • Developing and implementing growth strategies
  • Seek out opportunities for expansion and growth by developing business relationships
  • Provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, assigning performance goals and assuring their completion
  • Recruit onboard and train high-performing employees to achieve sales, profitability, market share, and business plan objectives
  • Maintain project timelines to ensure projects are accomplished on time
  • Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans
  • Delegate responsibilities to the best employees to perform them while enforcing all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, training programs, and cultural values
  • Resolve internal staff conflicts efficiently and to the mutual benefit of those involved
  • Mapping, assessing, and streamlining?complex processes to enable improved profitability, service, and scalability
  • Establishing, improving, and leveraging?key metrics and key performance indicators to drive operational performance
  • Reporting?operational results in an accurate and reliable fashion
  • Leading?the adoption, implementation, and utilization of information technology resources
  • Leading?annual budgeting of matters under his/her direct control, making periodic re-forecasts as needed

General Manager Requirements Include:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience, with a demonstrated track record of driving margin improvement and operational efficiency
  • 10+ years’ experience re-engineering internal processes to drive efficiency, increase profitability, and support revenue growth
  • A proven ability to leverage technology and systems to drive operational improvements and profitability
  • Product Development, Marketing, Sales and manufacturing leadership experience is required
  • A strong early career foundation in operations
  • 5+ years of full?P&L experience in middle-market or highly entrepreneurial organizations is?required
  • Strong leadership ability, interpersonal skill set, and competitive nature
  • BS/BA required; MBA or relevant advanced degree a plus
  • Acquisition and integration experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in the furniture industry preferred
