As the Head of USBU Ethics & Compliance-Rare Disease BU and Public Affairs working on the Ethics & Compliance team, you will be empowered to focus on what the organization needs by ensuring ethical behavior plays a fundamental role in risk mitigation, being a forward-thinking leader in risk identification and mitigation, and building a modern function supporting achievement of Takeda’s Vision 2025.

By working in an agile manner E&C ensures the balance between stable structures, governance, processes and systems, and dynamic approaches to delivering innovative solutions to appropriately manage our risks.

Collaborate across all E&C teams and partner with stakeholders in BU / BF to embed ethics and compliance as part of the way everyone works at Takeda
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develop and enhance the USBU Ethics & Compliance (E&C) Rare Disease and Public Affairs strategy
Member of USBU E&C, Rare Disease Business Unit (RDBU), and Public Affairs leadership teams
Support the delivery of the E&C program across the U.S. Business Unit (USBU), building key relationships with leaders and working together with the USBU E&C Leadership team.
Ensure USBU E&C has sufficient controls in place to manage company risks and align with regulatory obligations (monitoring plan, policy, procedure, training, risk assessment, etc.)
Lead discussions with senior leaders and help shape the USBU’s organizational mindset around Takeda’s Values: Takeda-ism and PTRB (Patient-Trust-Reputation-Business)-Model to firmly embed ethical decision-making principles
Resolve issues and drive alignment with USBU senior leaders concerning E&C or USBU driven programs (audit remediation, policy, process)
Drive engagement, growth, and development within the USBU E&C Rare Disease and Public Affairs team
Collaborate with other USBU E&C teams (Operations and Learning & Engagement) to support business operations and deliver on annual goals
Prepare materials for and periodically lead USBU and US-Wide E&C committee meetings
Contribute to global E&C program development (Code of Conduct, Values initiatives, Policies and Procedures, etc.)
Lead cross-US collaboration efforts with other US-based E&C functions on policy, SOP insights and analytics, and other harmonization efforts
Increase business acumen by obtaining therapeutic and product knowledge to support current and pipeline products
Represent and advocate for Takeda’s positions at PhRMA and other industry forums
External facing - Align USBU E&C Advisory engagement with evolving E&C trends (PhRMA, OIG, DOJ, SEC, PCF); Interact regularly with industry peers, co-marketing and co-promotion partners and vendors to help shape direction and detect evolving best practices
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree required; JD or relevant advanced degree preferred
12+ years working experience with 6 years in pharmaceutical industry legal or compliance and direct experience leading Ethics & Compliance Advisory.
Strong executive presence, business acumen, and ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
Experience with laws, regulations and industry guidance that affect the pharmaceutical industry including, but not limited to, OIG and PhRMA guidelines, and anti-bribery laws
Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and regulatory information and legal advice
Experience in managing potential, present and future compliance risks related to the business, including risk identification, controls & risk mitigation of potential non-compliance
Role model for Takeda’s values, ethics and values-based decision making
High interpersonal and communication skills including ability to challenge and provide advice/ guidance to business
Works cross-functionally / collaborates / manages matrix - Strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead change efforts through effective communication and persuasion and capability to lead and influence without authority
Proven skills to transform ideas into conversations and materials that resonate (presentations, written documents, email, etc.)
Consistently demonstrates the ability to deliver results; able to work and deliver on deadlines while managing multiple projects and priorities effectively
Managing complexity and ambiguity: ability to develop and apply pragmatic solutions to complex legal, regulatory and industry issues
Mindset of curiosity, learning agility and interest in innovative ways of doing things
This position is currently classified as “hybrid” in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel up to 25%, primarily domestic (when travel resumes)
