Human Services Management Intern
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES This is full-time graduate level work, assisting the Director of the Office of Human Services and Community Partnerships (HSCP) and key staff to include the development and implementation of the Community Human Services Partnership (CHSP) which is a joint County-City initiative for the planning and funding of human services in Leon County. Work involves providing administrative and analytical support for HSCP activities, including grant management of federal dollars and other assigned special research and analysis projects. This position will allow the incumbent to gain significant professional experience and an increased knowledge of human services planning and delivery in the community, as well as the operations and management of Leon County's Office of HSCP.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provide administrative and analytical assistance. CHSP: Route calls to appropriate staff; prepare and proof CHSP reports of funded agencies; exercise clerical skills (typing, software use, computer use, copier/scanner use); assist with agency site visits; answer frequently asked questions and provide technical support through the CHSP portal; prepare correspondence to CHSP agencies and partners; schedule calls and meetings with contract partners. Provide contract management. Assist the Human Service Analyst with ARP Act funded contract management; review requests for reimbursement or advancements of ARP Act funding; reach out to Human Services partner agencies frequently to obtain scheduled activity reports and reimbursement requests; request corrections to reimbursement requests and invoices when errors are identified.
Assist with administration of Direct Human Services. Assist with the administration of the County's Direct Emergency Assistance Program (DEAP) including application intake and application review; assist with developing analysis and reports on DEAP.
Perform special projects. Assist the Human Services Analyst and other Human Services staff with the implementation of programs, special projects and any other assigned research and analysis activities, including the implementation of policy. Independently conduct research and analysis activities on assignments as directed by HSCP staff. Collect relevant data and other research materials. Confer with County government staff and external stakeholders on assigned issues. Prepare and present oral and written reports on special assignments to supervisor. Performs related work and special assignments as requested.

DIFFICULTY Exercises sound independent judgment, including the ability to interpret County policies. Work requires initiative and creativity to complete assignments independently. Deadlines will be very important in this position. The intern will be required to work on numerous projects simultaneously with other individuals to meet project deadlines and accomplish numerous tasks within deadline constraints. Intern must have the ability and initiative to design and implement a research and analysis process.
RESPONSIBILITY: Supervision Received The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities and deadlines, and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear objectives. The employee plans and carries out successive steps and resolves problems and deviations in accordance with instructions, policies, and accepted practices. The supervisor reviews the work for technical adequacy and conformance with practice and policy. Employee must be autonomous. Supervision of Others None.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT These contacts consist of the Deputy County Administrator, HR Director, Resource Stewardship Director, Supervisors/Division and/or Program Directors concerning project status/strategy. Contact is also made with County legislative delegation members and staff concerning project status and assistance in implementing the County's Legislative Program.
EQUIPMMENTAND TOOLS USED Personal computer, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); specialized software such as Neighborly and the CHSP Portal; phone system and adding machine/basic calculator are examples of equipment and tools used in this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSCIAL DEMANDS Work is mainly indoors, at a desk and seated in a chair. Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of the general operational practices of state and county government. Knowledge of basic accounting or budget principles. Skills in written and verbal communication. Skills in data collection and analysis, and computer efficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Ability to take on multiple tasks and meet set deadlines. Ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Must have received a Master's Degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Sociology, or a similar field, within twelve (12) months immediately prior to (or before) the start date of the position; OR must possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field (Political Science, Business) AND be currently enrolled as a graduate student seeking a Master's degree in Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field.
Necessary Special Requirements Must be in good standing at the attending local university. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have a favorable driving record.
Selection Guidelines: Formal application, rating of education and experience, oral interview, reference check, and drug testing. FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt. The Intern is hired to perform professional (entry) level work in various administrative fields.
