Position Summary: Functions as a member of the vascular services team who assists the physician / proceduralist in the delivery of direct patient car in either the scrub or recorder role. Responsible for performing angiographic / interventional procedures by performing the imaging component for all procedures. May serve to record and monitor patient care responses and document outcomes in the Electronic Medical Record(s). Serves as the leading technical expert on all interventional procedures and assists in creating protocols for the technical aspects of the scrub role. Position Performance Area/Expectations: Evidenced Based Interventions Participates in the collection of data to support unit based quality initiatives, financial initiatives, research, and evidenced based activities. Communicates current evidenced based information with peers and nursing staff anddevelops new protocols as needed. Revises and reviews current procedures and protocols to assure the highest diagnostic quality and evidenced based care. Relationships and Caring Establishes a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication, acknowledgement of patient / family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes. Provides patients and/or family with necessary information and support to safely obtain the views needed for diagnosis. Actively participates with the patient and family and other vascular team members to develop a plan of care, identify patient needs, goals, preferences, and expected outcomes. Communicates in ways that demonstrate caring and valuing of patients, visitors, physicians and peers. Participates in unit based partnership council, committees and staff meetings. Critical Thinking Correlates physicians orders with the requisition and the patients identification and history to ensure appropriateness of exams. Performs the scrub role according to standards of care, physician preferences, and policy/procedures. Anticipates the needs of the physician and ensures proper instrumentation and supplies are available. Proficient in recording/monitoring role including rhythm recognition, and hemodynamic monitoring of patient if applicable Coordinates and/or assists in establishing proper parameters and protocols for the imaging equipment in conjunction with radiologists / physicians, clinical leaders, repair and applications personnel. Technical Expertise Performs/assists in all angiographic/interventional procedures according to physician orders and department policies and procedures. Correctly labels images (i. e. right, left) for accurate readings. Follows all hospital general and radiation safety policies, as well as infection control procedures, surgical scrub attire, patient identification, and site verification to ensure patient and personal safety. Applies the principles of sterile technique and maintenance of the sterile environment at all times. Transfers radiographic images in an accurate and timely manner to the appropriate imaging program / electronic medical record. Completes departmental charges in the appropriate electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely fashion and ensures all required documentation in the patients EMR is complete and supports the departmental changes entered. Performs procedures while operating equipment according to policies and manufactures recommendation. Cleans and inspects equipment prior to and after each use. Promptly notifies the Clinical Coordinator or Operations Manager of any needed repairs. Documents required equipment information / checks. Participates in the evaluation of equipment and technology for prospective purchase as needed. Participates in high level medication double checks and drug calculations if applicable. Leadership Assists in providing meaningful orientation and serves as a resource for the technical aspects of care for new employees and other vascular team members. May provide education or in-services to vascular team members or other clinical staff. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice and growth, including progress towards achievement of annual goals. In collaboration with the Vascular Services Clinical Coordinator and / or Operations manager, may assist with the coordination of daily team assignments, facilitation of daily case scheduling, or resolution of patient / family concerns. Participates in unit based activities that ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. Provides safe, high quality patient care using resources in a cost-effective manner. Position Requirements: Must be currently licensed in the State of Illinois by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency as a Registered Radiological Technologist. Must also be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Graduate of an approved radiological technology approved school. BLS and ACLS certification required. Must obtain RCIS / RCES certification within 3 years ofhire. Must be able to provide rotating on-call coverage and be able to respond to the hospital within 30 minutes of notification. EKG interpretation and hemodynamic monitoring skills essential. Knowledge of high alert and procedural medications needed.
