The Denver County Court (DCC) is seeking a Judicial Assistant III to join a judge in Courtroom 3G of the General Sessions / Criminal Division for Felony Preliminary Hearings. This position will work on-site at the Lindsay-Flanigan Courthouse, Monday through Friday.

The mission of Denver County Court is to administer justice fairly, efficiently and effectively; provide excellent customer service, and foster a positive environment where employees enjoy their work. The City and County of Denver’s third branch of government is comprised of a diverse and esteemed bench comprised of 19 judges, 3 full-time magistrates, and 300 staff members. Case types include state, civil, small claims, traffic, criminal, and other general sessions cases within the City and County of Denver. The Division

The General Sessions and Criminal Division is a fast-paced environment serving many customers with complex legal matters. We are committed to helping people, creating and maintaining an accurate court record, and providing support services to the Judicial Officers. As a Judicial Assistant III in this position, you can expect to:
  • Represent your judge and the Court in a positive and professional manner as the face of your courtroom
  • Be a valued member of a small, but dynamic team where mutual trust, collaboration, and reliance is critical to the team’s success
  • Provide excellent and unbiased service to all customers of the Court while handling serious matters with appropriate respect and decorum
  • Support procedural fairness
  • Enter your judge’s orders and findings in the case record in real time during Court, keeping pace with the proceedings as each case is called
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records, manage all courtroom activities and functions, and act as liaison between defendants, attorneys, court personnel, other stakeholders, and the judge
  • Rotate to different courtrooms throughout the court depending on your judge’s annual courtroom assignment -- If your assigned judge changes courtrooms, your position will follow to their new rotation
  • Become a process and operations expert, and find proactive solutions


Employees may be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a City-wide emergency declared by the Mayor.

Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

About You

The ideal candidate will have integrity and a strong commitment to public service. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Desire to work within a small team, accepting and providing assistance to others as needed
  • Experience with customer de-escalation and conflict management
  • Proficiency with computers, typing, electronic filing systems/databases
  • Experience utilizing various case management systems to maintain the accuracy of the court record
  • Experience reviewing court documents to determine compliance with relevant and appropriate statutes, rules, administrative orders and/or other governing policies and procedures
  • Paralegal experience and/or court specific knowledge

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of clerical experience, of which two (2) years of experience must have been in court, law enforcement or legal setting.
