LIBRARY ASSISTANT IV

Scope of Job:
To provide the highest level of paraprofessional and advanced operational and technical duties in the operation of the Mario E. Ramirez M.D. Library including advanced knowledge of library practices and procedures. Provides expert knowledge in a particular library area with substantial knowledge of general library services.

Description of Duties:
• Responsible for performing senior-level paraprofessional and technical duties.

• Researchers for the latest developments and trends, with considerable independent judgment, in area of responsibility assigned.

• Manages and supervises a small unit or functional area assigned.

• Implements and revises assigned area’s policies, procedures, and agreements.

• Gathers data and develops reports for distribution and/or presentations.

• Develops, mentors and trains assigned staff in use of the Library’s automated systems.

• Develops policies responsive to patron information needs and research behaviors.

• Evaluates and recommends changes to existing practices and procedures in assigned area.

• Participate in the strategic planning process of the library.

• Performs related duties as required.

Supervision Received:
General direction from the assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Specific supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:
Twelve (12) college credit hours in Computer Information Systems or computer related field with an Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
• Minimum of six (6) years of relevant Library work, or a combination of,

• Three (3) years of full time office work experience with an Associate’s Degree / 60 college credit hours, or

• No previous work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited University.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Must be able to stoop and reach in order to lift books to stock shelves, lift boxes of books and other library materials, and push carts and dollies loaded with library materials.

Other:
Ability to work with campus financial systems and track account expenditures. Must possess good writing, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work with library Millennium system and Library of Congress classification system.
