As a Diagnostics and Repair Software Quality Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers located in Santa Clara Valley and Austin, TX who are responsible for ensuring the functionality of AppleCare's Field Diagnostics and Repair SW tools prior to the introduction of new Products (NPI), Operating Systems, and new Diagnostics. Field Diagnostics and Repair SW tools are important assets to Apple, since these facilitate proper triage and resolution of product issues experienced by our customers and provide key performance data throughout the life of the product that support continuous improvement. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing test plans that challenge the functionality and performance of Field Diagnostics and Repair SW tools, as well as collaborating with cross-functional engineering partners to identify bugs and qualify corrective fixes to client, server, platform and support software and services to ensure functionality and performance. Key Qualifications Leader with established record managing SW quality deliverables during the entire lifecycle of new software projects (i.e. requirement definition, architecture and design, planning, development, qualification, go-live and sustaining). Experience developing test plans for SW projects, including collaboration with key stakeholders to identify key SW features to be challenged via QA testing. Experience with work planning, including definition of work scope, headcount and materials, key milestones, and success metrics. Experience managing day-to-day operations, including resource allocation (people, space, equipment), processes and systems (material allocation and management, HW take-apart, reassembly and testing, test environment navigation, exception management), and metrics (definition, ownership, and actions). Experience managing temporary workforce, including headcount forecasting, sourcing, candidate selection, and on-boarding. Ability to measure and analyze work content and output to track resource supply and demand. Work with leadership to strategize for team growth as needed. Passion for problem solving and identifying root cause. Ability to identify and communicate improvements for test, operations, and business processes. Prior knowledge of diagnostics systems will be a plus. Strong analytical skills. Experience collaborating with network, security, and infrastructure functions. A solution-oriented work ethic with a high degree of flexibility in supporting multiple projects with a range of complexity and priority. Previous track record working with cross-functional/interdisciplinary teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate complex topics in simple language. Experience presenting at all levels of the organization, from individual contributors to senior leadership. High attention to detail. Ability to travel as required. Description Responsibilities include providing technical and people leadership during all planning, operations, and test execution activities to ensure successful Diagnostics and Repair SW tools go-live and sustaining: Partner with cross-functional Engineering Managers and EPM partners to assess and plan upcoming hardware and software deliverables. Align with iOS and MacOS architecture, security and engineering teams partners to align on strategy, program schedules, requirements, and testing resources. Support diagnostic and repair SW tools architecture discussions to aid in project design. Drive initial QA team discussions around test plan creation, execution, and release strategies. Provide weekly status updates on high-visibility projects to senior leadership and execs, presenting testing progress, challenges, and resolution one-pagers. Provide team with individualized guidance to execute project deliverables and overcome challenges. Provide technical leadership during execution of test plans, overcoming challenges and identifying impactful bugs. Intimate familiarity with troubleshooting, debugging, and disassembling most Apple hardware and software products, as well as navigating test environment challenges. Partner with Operations teams to source incoming repair modules used during the qualification of diagnostic and repair SW tools for hardware programs. Provide insight and act as source of tribal knowledge into inner workings of diagnostics system (AST 2) and related infrastructures outside of our direct realm. Author and encourage team members to contribute to ongoing documentation: test plans, SOPs, knowledge-base articles. Manage ordering, distribution, and maintenance of NPI and legacy HW, service parts, equipment, and supplies as the business demands to accomplish goals. Oversee SW QA operations over multiple labs and products. Manage 500+ device inventory of legacy and NPI development and production hardware. Partner closely with team's Automation Engineering lead to strategize and prioritize automation initiatives to help reduce manual repetitive work. Education & Experience BS in Computer Science or related technical field preferred. Directly relevant work experience in lieu of degree. 5 years of industry work experience, with 2 years in a people management role (direct or indirect).
