Job Summary:
Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida is seeking an experienced medical assistant to provide exceptional patient care in a team-based environment. As a Medical Assistant you will be assisting the physician or physician assistant directly and indirectly with patient care in a fast-paced environment. You will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The goal is to complete all activities accurately, with outstanding attention to detail and in a timely manner. This position will have unrestricted access to protected health information (PHI) pertaining to patients.
Essential Functions:
Admit patients to exam rooms
Ensure proper medical documentation, medications, progress notes, lab results, vital signs and medical history
Identify patient's chief complaint or reason for visit
Prepare patient for doctor, order exams as directed and assist doctor as needed
Perform splinting, bracing, casting; dressing, wound care and removal of sutures/staples as needed
Prepare instruments for injections and aspirations
Schedule surgery, physical therapy and order tests
Patient call backs, prescription calls, patient education of procedures and testing, patient notification of lab/test results when requested, and chart preparation
Clean and stock examination rooms

Responsible for promoting the Standards of Excellence for Orthopedic Specialists while demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior toward patients, visitors, volunteers, peers and physicians
Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize work during heavy workload situations to expedite patient care
Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance
Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
Work independently while understanding the need to communicate and coordinate work efforts with other employees and organizations
Minimum Requirements (education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required):
High School Diploma
Minimum of 1 year healthcare experience
Licensed Practical Nurse FL Licensure or Medical Assistant Certification preferred. If not certified prior to hire, Medical Assistant certification must be obtained after successful completion of 90 day probationary period. Licensed Practical Nurse FL Medical License or Medical Assistant recertification required.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Strong organizational skills
Computer Literate - Windows environment
Ability to perform essential duties as assigned
Ability to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions
Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and prioritize
Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette
Knowledge of OSHA requirements
Knowledge of medical terminology, equipment, procedures, instruments and common safety hazards and precautions
Essential Physical Functions:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients at times; Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
Occasional lifting, carrying supplies, squatting, and bending
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, calculator and other office equipment as necessary
Ability to view computer screens for long periods of time
Drug Screening is required
