Tanzu Mission control (TMC) is an exciting and fast-growing cloud service that is part of the VMware Tanzu Portfolio. The VMware Tanzu Portfolio enables enterprises to adopt Cloud Native technologies and automate modern application development adoption on any cloud. Tanzu Mission Control is designed to give customers a single pane of glass for all their Kubernetes clusters so they can create, build, use, secure, monitor, and scale with ease.

The TMC API/CLI Framework team focuses on building excellent user experiences across different interfaces (API, CLI, UI, Terraform). We collaborate extensively with Product Managers, UX Designers, and all other TMC engineering teams to not only provide the guidelines for API design and best practices, but also abstract out the common repetitive logic from service components.

As an engineer on this team, you will work on

  • Designing and implementing the next version of APIs to enable TMC as an extensible platform

  • Providing Unified Tanzu CLI support for TMC features

  • Contributing to common framework features where every change can have a huge impact across multiple service teams

  • Supporting common libraries, code generation, tooling and upgrades

  • Providing guidelines and tooling for build and test

Tanzu Mission control (TMC) is a new cloud service that is part of the VMware Tanzu Portfolio, which provides enterprises a single pane of glass for all their Kubernetes clusters on any cloud, and enables them to develop and manage the modern application lifecycle.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

We need someone who can collaborate with product management and engineering teams to design, develop, test, release and operate cloud services that provide top notch user experiences with high scalability and availability

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You will implement modules in microservices in Go language. Your code needs to have readability, extensibility and good quality.

  • You will write unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality.

  • You will be expected to showcase your ability to troubleshoot and mitigate issues in production.

  • You will first be guided in completing projects. With the growth of your experience, you will be expected to independently solve problems and complete projects.

  • You will be regularly evaluated on the quality of the product you create and the code you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Most of your time will be spent writing high-quality code with excellent code coverage using Go. You can expect to be the owner and take accountability for the quality of your code.

  • Under the guidance of senior team members, you will have opportunities to improve your system design and component design skills.

  • You will collaborate with teammates to solve problems during service development lifecycle.

  • You will collaborate with other functions such as program management, QE engineers, and SRE engineers to improve the product.

  • You will take on-call responsibilities to ensure smooth operation of microservices this team owns.

For US based candidates, the annual pay range (OTE for commissioned roles; Salary for other roles) for this position is: $101,000 - $230,000. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position. VMware offers comprehensive benefits including, but not limited to: medical, dental, and vision plans, company paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
