Job Description:

The mission of the Department of Elections (Department) is to provide equitable access to voting and election-related services and to conduct free, fair, and functional elections for the City and County of San Francisco. In preparation for the November 8, 2022 Election, the Department is seeking an Outreach and Community Engagement Coordinator to help administer a citywide outreach program designed to encourage voter participation, with a focus on disseminating election information to San Francisco’s BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) residents. Position Pay and Schedule The Department intends to fill this seasonal position, which will run through at least mid-November 2022, on August 8, 2022. The person in this position will work between 40 and 60 hours per week, with overtime hours paid at 1.5 the hourly rate. While most work will be completed between 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, some work, including attendance at community events, will need to take place in the evenings or on weekends. This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12 month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. For more information on the City and County of San Francisco benefit policies, refer to the Employee Handbook available at https://sfdhr.org/sites/default/files/documents/Forms-Documents/Employee-Handbook.pdf Position Salary: $26.81 to $32.57 Hourly * Position Description:* The person in this position reports to the Outreach manager and is responsible for scheduling and conducting outreach presentations requiring extensive knowledge of the election process and deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and a high level of integrity, interacting well with community groups, outside agencies, and members of the public. This person will also be able to present information in a clear and engaging manner to a variety of audiences and to draft professional written correspondence. The ideal candidate will have community outreach experience, be familiar with San Francisco neighborhoods, know how to use common computer programs such as the Microsoft Suite and Adobe Acrobat, and will speak more than one language fluently. With this skillset, they will: · Strengthen the Department’s relationship with community partners · Schedule, coordinate, and conduct outreach events and presentations · Recruit poll workers to assist voters at polling places on Election Day · Provide election information at resource tables at community events · Identify new partner organizations and media serving BIPOC residents · Provide general clerical support and assist with other tasks, as needed Position Minimum Qualifications 1. One (1) year (equivalent to 2000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail: OR 2. Six (6) months (equivalent to 1000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience as described in #1 and completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR 3. Six (6) months (equivalent to 1000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience as described in #1 and 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university. The person in this position must also possess a valid California Driver’s License (to be able to drive to outreach events around the City) and be able to move and lift up to 50 pounds of outreach supplies and equipment.
