General Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate/Post-doctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team studying the impacts and benefits of global solar PV supply chains, with support from the Global Energy Initiative at ClimateWorks Foundation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in power system modeling, air pollution and human health modeling.

Principal Investigator and team:

Dr. Gang He (incoming assistant professor in the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, Baruch College, City University of New York). Dr. Gang He’s group studies the environmental, climate, and social economic implications of energy transition pathways, and provides data-driven, evidence based, energy and climate policy analysis to support energy decisions and climate actions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on the benefits and impact of global solar PV supply chains.

  • Develop and apply power system models to evaluate the impacts of solar PV supply chains on electricity systems and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Develop and apply air pollution and human health models to evaluate the impacts of solar PV supply chains on air quality and human health.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and external partners to ensure project goals are met.

  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.

  • Communicate with sponsors and stakeholders on project progress, policy insights, and action plans.

  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and other funding opportunities.

    Other Duties

  • In coordination with project lead, execute project management on various aspects of project;

  • Organize planning meetings and events, web-based communications as necessary;

  • Preparation of project progress and final reports.

    Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field, such as electrical engineering, environmental science, or public health.

  • Expertise in power system modeling, air pollution modeling, and human health modeling.

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used for power system modeling (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and one commonly used for air pollution modeling (e.g., CMAQ, WRF-Chem, or inMAP).

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical and spatial analysis.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Track record of publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working on interdisciplinary research projects.

  • Familiarity with global supply chains and sustainability issues.

  • Experience with spatial analysis and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS).
