  • Serve as technique expert in ongoing in vivo optical and electrophysiological neuroscientific experiments (fiber photometry; invivo electrophysiological recordings; familiarity with time and frequency domain based analyses).

  • Perform invasive survival and non-survival surgical techniques and experiments in in vivo preparations (e.g., AAV virus injections, chronic fiber cannula implantation, tracheostomies).

  • Demonstrate competency in immunohistochemical and fluorescent in situ hybridization techniques for brain tissue processing.

  • Provide scientific, analytic, and general support for ongoing projects; the SRA area of research is narrowly focused on the neural control of respiration.

  • Assist with training and supervision of staff and academic apprentice personnel that are involved in in vivo projects.

  • Summarize data along the line of research publications.

  • Knowledge of UCLA, ARC, and DLAM regulations and procedures pertaining to animal handling.

  • A minimum of 5 years laboratory experience with in vivo experiments related to the neural control of respiration.

  • Working familiarity with analysis techniques germane to the electrophysiological and fiber photometry study of populations of neurons over time (e.g., wavelets).

  • Certified to perform both survival and non-survival surgeries in rodents at UCLA.

  • Demonstrated experience of fluorescent in situ hybridization (e.g. RNAscope).

  • Minimum 2 years of experience using fiber photometry imaging systems commonly used to monitor populations of neurons.

  • Demonstrated management and supervisory skills, and experience training/teaching undergraduates and academic apprentices.

  • Demonstrated proficiency on Mac, PC and UNIX-based systems; plus familiarity with the following programs: MS Office; DataView; IGOR; LabChart; ImageJ; Adobe Photoshop.
