Job Summary:

The Freedman Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a Research Specialist to contribute to general lab operations as well as ongoing research in environmental microbiology, plant-soil-microbe interactions, sustainable agroecosystems, and a citizen science initiative supported by the O.N. Allen Professorship in Soil Microbiology. Please see our lab's website for more information https://freedmanlab.soils.wisc.edu.

This position offers a collegial, nurturing lab group whose mission is to train the next generation of diverse scientists in soil microbiology. Responsibilities:

Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 20% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 30% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 20% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 20% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
A bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Soil Science or related field.

Qualifications:

Previous lab experience is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates that have previous experience with lab techniques in Soil Science, Molecular Biology, and/or Stable Isotope Ecology.
