We are seeking a Growth and Improvement minded Scientific Director, Medical Affairs that can help drive our Strategic Operating Priorities.

Summary, Focus and Purpose

The United States Scientific Director, Medical Affairs (SDMA) is responsible for regional Field Medical strategy, training and prioritization of the Scientific and Medical Affairs Research Team Plan for United States Medical Affairs. They are an experienced therapeutic area leader/subject matter expert for defined Therapeutic Areas, possessing relevant medical affairs and field medical experience to guide and direct field medical strategy in alignment with organizational priorities.

The Scientific Director Medical Affairs for vaccines will be responsible for new coronavirus programs as well as other respiratory and/or other vaccines as needed and will be an impactful member of the US Regional and Global Medical Affairs Teams and Field Leadership Teams pertaining to assigned vaccines in the Infectious Disease portfolio.

They drive regional scientific excellence and optimize Field Team readiness in support of research and scientific exchange aligned to SMART plan priorities. This is a regionally based position (United States) in our Research & Development Division's, US Medical Affairs. The Scientific Director Medical Affairs serves to infuse local insights into Global Scientific Content and Global Scientific Training, plans and facilitates local pull-through of global scientific content and training and plans and implements aligned local training as needed. This is a US-based, Headquarters/Remote position including requirements for travel both domestically and internationally.

Key Functions

  • Leads the integrated US Country Medical Plan, including US Field Medical Plan for assigned therapeutic area and defines prioritized US Medical Affairs field strategy, and implementation goals

  • Serves as scientific interface between Global Medical Affairs (GMA) and headquarter functions and the US field | Collects and communicates scientific insights from US field engagements to inform company strategies

  • Identifies and prioritizes US field resources, training needs and activities across portfolio needs

  • Serves as US Medical Interface with US Brand Leads for aligned products

  • Collaborates with Global Medical Affairs to define/implement strategic congress priorities for USMA and coordinate planning of Regional Medical Scientific Director activities at key scientific congresses

  • Collaborates to prioritize Regional Medical Scientific Director activities to advance our Company's research studies (Investigator Study Program , company-sponsored trials, and others)

  • Represents US Medical Affairs in partnership with Global Medical Affairs and Global Center for Scientific Affairs in implementation of Input forums (Scientific Input Engagement, Expert Input Forum, Global Therapeutic Experts Forum or Ad boards)

  • Develops and provides input into field resources to supply the RMSDs with timely, relevant, approved materials for medical and/or scientific training and ensures content and training needs are met

  • Partners with Global Trial Specialist/Global Scientific Content to develop, orchestrate and deliver regional and global training

  • Ensures alignment and pull-through of pre- and post-congress regional training and content needs

Education

  • An advanced degree (M.D., Ph.D. or Pharm.D.), that is relevant to the Infectious Diseases/Virology/HIV disease area and recognized medical expertise in the therapeutic area

Experience | Skills | Knowledge

Required

  • Five plus years pharmaceutical industry experience, (preferably Field Medical experience or equivalent biotech/pharmaceutical/Medical Affairs experience), within relevant therapeutic area

  • Principled interpersonal, communication, networking and results-oriented project management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a complex, matrixed environment; promotes inclusion, maintains trust, and respects others

  • Ability to network and partner with important internal and external stakeholders, including cross functional teams, scientific leaders, investigators, clinical practice leaders

  • Knowledge of national and society treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, and Office of the Inspector General, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and other ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and its external stakeholder environment

Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$175,440.00 - $276,200.00
