Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.
Job Description:
This position is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and oversight of the Nevada Copper Safety Management Systems at the Pumpkin Hollow Underground operation. This includes: acting as a technical advisor and mentor to the operational team regarding health, safety, and regulatory issues; engaging with employees and business partners to create a culture of Zero Harm; developing, implementing, and auditing policies, standards, and procedures; and managing risk through the identification and elimination of workplace hazards.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in the creation of a safety conscious and engaged workplace culture that promotes the Values of the company and efforts to support the goals and objectives of the operation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and guidance to operational leadership to achieve safe and health operating goals
Regularly interact with employees and business partners and demonstrate a high level of H&S leadership
Work as a member of the site H&S team to develop strategies that manage risk
Develop and implement unique and creative solutions to solve potentially complex H&S problems
Lead and participate in H&S inspections to identify hazardous behaviors and conditions
Track and analyze H&S trends and develop mitigation strategies to eliminate hazards
Plan and conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training session
Accompany Federal and State regulators during inspections
Assist with health and hygiene sampling, including: dust, noise, diesel particulate, heat stress, etc.
Lead or participate in Root Cause investigations to determine causal and contributing factors for incidents
Timely and accurate completion/submission of required company and regulatory reports
Maintain required H&S documentation in a neat and orderly manner
Be proactive and responsive to H&S concerns, fairly and consistently administer company policies
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
Three (3) to Five (5) years underground mining experience (operations experience Preferred)
Prior experience as a safety, health, or training professional Preferred
Education or Certification in a Health and Safety field from a recognized institution Preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Strong analytical and communication skills (written and oral)
Ability to facilitate collaboration and interaction with individuals and groups including business partners
Use logic and reasoning to identify complex problems and offer creative solutions
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and drive results to ensure on time completion of deadlines
Able to be self-directed, team-oriented, and work with minimum oversight
Detailed and organizationally driven to ensure H&S tasks are planned and executed successfully
Strong knowledge of Federal and State regulations including CFR Title 30 and NV State Chapter 512
Proficient with technical equipment and programs such as: Office Suite, iAuditor, LMS, various applications
Prior experience with Root Cause investigations (ICAM or similar methodology) Preferred
Mine Rescue and/or Emergency Response Team experience Preferred
MSHA instructor certification IS, IU, MM Preferred
Prior Industrial Hygiene sampling experience Preferred

Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in weight
Work in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, including underground
Exposure to hot and cold work environments and forms of inclement weather
Maintain focus under stressful circumstances, pressure, or deadlines
Wear Personal Protective Clothing including hard hat, hearing protection, reflective vest, eye protection, etc.
Work and walk in areas that are dark, wet, or have uneven surfaces
Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:
The incumbent work schedule is typically a 40 hour/week schedule. The incumbent may be required to modify this schedule and/or may be required to work both day and night shifts as necessary to support the needs of the business. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
