The primary purpose of the Health Services Research Senior Statistical Analyst position is to carry out data preparation responsibilities related to research conducted in Health Services Research, develops statistical programs, perform statistical analysis and prepares reports, often associated with observational and administrative data.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Data management and programming Understand medical billing and coding system, manage commonly used large multiscale claims databases such as IBM MarketScan data, Optum Clinformatics data mart, Medicare data, write SAS programs to generate analytical dataset for research project using Unix or Linux operation system. Learn SAS macro, SQL, and SAS ODS output. Develop appropriate approach to link geographic variables in claims data with publicly available datasets such as Area Health Resources Files to evaluate geographic disparities in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Data analysis Perform basic and advanced statistical data analysis under supervision of a more advanced level analyst. Assist faculty member in development of new statistical methods or algorithm for claims-based analysis. Be able to manage multiple projects for multiple principle investigators efficiently. Willing to take on challenges to meet deadlines for projects.
Research and training Perform literature review, learn medical terms, and identify appropriate medical billing codes for research project under supervision of a more advanced level analyst or a faculty member. Participate and present at monthly statistical analysts' group seminar. Discuss with advanced level analyst and research team to propose ideas about study design, cohort selection, data analysis and results interpretation .
Reporting Prepare data analysis results in publishable formats such as tables, text, and figures. Draft the memo with study cohort, statistical analysis methods and results under the supervision of a more advanced level analyst. May present findings at relevant meetings both inside and outside of the institution as requested.

EDUCATION:
Required: Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or related field.
Preferred: PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four years experience with mainframe and/or PC databases, document processing and statistical software such as SAS and S-Plus. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.
