Bonobos is looking for a creative and passionate Designer to take the Knits and Sweater categories to the next level.
Founded on a better-fitting pair of pants and the best-in-class customer service around, Bonobos is one of the fastest growing digitally native apparel companies ever. As our Designer, you'll be working with all facets of design development for the Knits and Sweaters categories alongside the fun and highly talented Design team. In the role, you'll be diving into the design process head first. You'll be doing market research to understand our customers, sketching, working on print and stitch development, collaborating with our tech team during fittings and communicating daily with our Production and Merchandising teams.
Reporting directly to our Design Director of Tops, you will have the opportunity to get your hands dirty in every step of the design process. You will play an instrumental role in evolving our much-loved knits and sweaters, season after season. We have an all-hands-on-deck mentality where the sharing of ideas is encouraged. What you'll do...
Designs and innovates on products for their categories [Knits, Sweaters and Socks]
Contributes to overall company product strategies
Attends category cross-functional meetings with merchandising, production, tech design and planning
Stay up to date on menswear trends related to their categories
Translates customer needs into viable product ideas
Builds product related deadlines on top of company calendar
Collaborates with merchandising team to bring new key ideas to categories
Attends retail trade shows and visits factories to stay up to date on industry and product trends and production innovations when required
Responsible for designing full product lines for their categories; keen eye for yarns, stitches, fabric, color and print.
Clear understanding of all technical aspects of sweater design and development, including different types of yarns, stitches, gauge and fiber content, knitting machine capabilities, innovative knitting structures and patterns, and garment construction.
Responsible for creating detailed and accurate tech packs (Adept at relevant design systems, BeProduct, Adobe, Miro, Microsoft)
Contributes point of view in fitting and take notes/update tech packs and sketches accordingly
Creates clear and directional design boards, owns editing development to 50% development ratio in partnership with Merchandising
Comfortable speaking publicly and presenting designs in variety of settings
Able to lead with confidence in assortment meetings with merchandising
Attends seasonal detail meetings and directs conversation of assortment, responsible for selecting trims and product details.
Keeps clear, open communication with production and merchandising
Responsible for pulling fabrics, yarns and trims for categories, has good understanding of fabric construction and attributes.
Approves lab dips, trim sheets, knit-downs, stitch development, fit samples and pre-production samples
Communicates all product details for site merchandising to input into website
A positive “all-hands-on-deck” attitude and willingness to get the job done
Knowing when to make decisions vs. relying on manager
Strong communication in a variety of settings (verbal & written) Internally/externally
Strong design aesthetic and ability to produce relevant and innovative design concepts
Have the ability to sell ideas and clearly explain product designs
Able to work collaboratively with team members to achieve team initiatives
Expert at using Adobe design software
Comfortable with design calendar, deadlines and managing competing priorities
Comfortable with garment construction in both knits and sweaters.
Understands how to shift priorities and workload as business needs shift
Asks relevant questions and can work through data to come to a timely decision
