The Position is eligible to telework from any of the TWC UI client service centers (El Paso, Fort Worth, McAllen, San Antonio) or in the Austin Main Building. Employees pay the remainder of the premium by paycheck deduction before taxes are withheld. - Optional Benefits such as dental, vision, and life insurance - 8 hours sick leave per month - 8 hours vacation leave per month with potential to earn more with longevity - Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services - Additional benefits for active employees: https://www.ers.texas.gov/Active-Employees/Health-Benefits WHAT YOU WILL DO: Our team communicates to audiences across a broad spectrum of educational and economic backgrounds, and which includes private individuals, public officials, employers, and our own agency staff. Our team is responsible for writing and producing customer relations correspondence, internet pages, publication content and design, standard operating procedures, informational material, public outreach material, training material, and policies. Teleworking after training is possible, but not guaranteed. The Technical Writer performs complex to advanced (senior-level) content writing, including researching, composing, organizing, and editing information, as well as managing websites, and designing and producing publications such as brochures, flyers, posters, and handbooks. May train or supervise the work of others. Works under general to limited supervision, with moderate to considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH -Three to five years professional experience as a writer -Experience writing public-facing materials, customer service responses, standard operating procedures and training materials -Experience in publishing, publication design and/or web publishing, including coding and creating CSS -Strong research and interview skills -Highly skilled at proofreading and editing own work as well as others; expert skills in grammar, spelling and punctuation -Experience with the AP Style Guide and/or the Chicago Manual of Style -Excellent attention to detail -Ability to understand and follow advanced communication principles -Motivated self-starter able to conceptualize, propose and initiate new procedures and work quickly while managing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions -Adaptable and eager to learn -Ability to work effectively both on a team or solo -Ability to work well under deadline pressure, in a sometimes fast-paced environment -Ability to read complex legal language and jargon and translate them into clear, concise and easy-to-read plain language -Professional experience working with communications software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe RoboHelp, Web design tools, HTML and CSS -Excellent typing skills -Basic u derstanding of or experience with unemployment benefits, unemployment taxes, and the appeals process -Basic understanding of or experience with making documents accessible to comply with Section 508, an amendment to the United States Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the federal law mandating that all electronic and information technology developed, procured, maintained, or used by the federal government be accessible to people with disabilities. YOU QUALIFY WITH -Technical Writer I:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field is required. -Technical Writer II:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field is required plus one year of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work. -For both levels:One year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education Must be a Texas Resident. Duty requires up to 10% travel within the state of Texas and the ability to lift 15 pounds. Works 40 hours a week. Occasional overtime (evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be required. Management will set schedule. TWC may use all available information, including past unemployment claims, to evaluate an applicants suitability for the position.
