Is responsible for operating in a safe manner at the work site and while in transit to/from the work site. Responsible for operator maintenance on tractors and equipment such as checking and replenishing fluids to proper levels and changing filters. Incumbent operates a field-type tractor with attached and towed equipment. Transports materials and equipment. Digs, loads, plants, clears, mows and dispenses liquid and solid materials. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications 1. One year related experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on a field-type tractor and associated equipment. 2. Must have and retain a valid driver's license. 3. Must be willing to obtain a Government motor vehicle operator's permit, if required. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of tractor and equipment operating characteristics such as tractor gears, power ratios, braking and turning capacities, and equipment power requirements, capacities and operating speeds. Must be able to manipulate the tractor and equipment controls at the same time. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be physically capable of lifting supplies and materials up to 100 pounds; frequent arm and leg movements to operate tractor controls, and exposure to pollen and chemical fumes, weather extremes, and possible cuts and bruises.
