University Archivist Position overview Position title: University Archivist Salary range: $60,116 - $92,074, commensurate withqualifications and experience Percent time: Full-time (100%) Anticipated start: As soon as possible afterinitial review of the applications. Position duration: This position is a member ofthe Professional Librarians Unit (LX) and is represented by theAmerican Federation of Teachers (AFT). The initial appointmentwill be a full-time appointment. Non-temporary appointments to theLibrarian Series at UCSC are offered as potential career or careerstatus as appropriate (see Article 4 D. Terms of Service of theUC-AFT labor contract). In accordance with policy, the selectedcandidate will undergo the Librarian Peer Review process wheretheir performance will be reviewed and assessed. Position Description The University Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz(UCSC) invites applications for the position of UniversityArchivist, which will serve under the direction of the Head ofSpecial Collections and Archives. The position leads thedevelopment of the UC Santa Cruz University Archives collectionsand services, with the dual aim of curating the historical recordsof the campus and extending awareness and use of the collections. Apriority for the position will be actively engaging with studentorganizations and groups to ensure the student experience isincluded broadly within the Archives. Additionally the UniversityArchivist will establish strong relationships with administrativeand academic partners within the Library, across campus, and in theUC system to ensure the proactive and systematic transfer ofhistorical records. The scope of the collection includes historicalmaterials, in any format, that document the history and functionsof all areas of the UC Santa Cruz campus. In collaboration with colleagues in the Processing Unit, theUniversity Archivist will undertake the acquisition, arrangement,and description of archival collections that document all aspectsof University history, including student life as well as the workof faculty and administration. The University Archivist will curateexhibits and develop curriculum-integrated programming and outreachfocused on campus history with a particular focus on engaging withcurrent students to document their experiences. As part of theSpecial Collections team, the University Archivist will participatein departmental instruction and reference programs, includingserving a regular shift on the Special Collections Reference Deskand providing specialized community-centered research assistanceand primary source literacy instruction. In support of the above activities, the University Archivist willbe assigned the following duties: Develop, implement, and evaluate priorities and policies forretaining materials of permanent historical value to thecampus;Partner with students in documenting the student experience,providing mentorship and developing experiential learningopportunities;Engage in outreach initiatives among students, faculty,administrators, alumni, and public user groups;Work closely with the campus Records Manager to ensure thatcampus records of permanent value are appropriately retained;Provide leadership, consultation, and outreach to campus unitsabout responsibilities for historical records, both analog anddigital, including web-archiving efforts;Promote the use and understanding of University Archives toresearchers, students, alumni, university personnel, and thepublic;Collaborate with University Archivists at other UC campuses onsystem-wide university archives issues;Participate and represent the UC Santa Cruz University Archivesin appropriate archival, historical, or scholarlyorganizations.
