Visiting Assistant Professor - Sport & Recreation Management, Hart School
The Hart School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management at James Madison University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Sport and Recreation Management department. The position is a non-renewable one-year appointment beginning in Fall 2022. The Hart School is an affiliate academic unit in the College of Business. The Hart School serves approximately 1,000 students in both Sport & Recreation Management and Hospitality Management along with a Sport & Recreation Leadership program with more than 40 students at the Master’s level. Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities involve teaching assigned courses in the undergraduate Sport and Recreation Management program. This position will have a three/three teaching load during the regular academic year, and class sizes can range from 20 to 50 students depending upon the specific class. This position will be responsible for teaching any combination of the following three classes: SRM 241-Introduction to Sport and Recreation Management, SRM 334-Introduction to Sport Media, SRM 436-Facilities and Events. Although unlikely, other classes may be substituted for any of those three classes depending upon departmental needs, and to view all classes being offered, applicants can reference the entire curriculum online.
Minimum/preferred qualifications for this position:
- Ph.D. preferred, ABD acceptable, in sports and/or recreation or a closely related field; and
- Either: a) multi-year experience teaching in the sport and/or recreation field at the collegiate level; or b) professional management work experience in sport and/or recreation with evidence of training/mentoring others; and
- Professional experience in sports and/or recreation is strongly preferred, but not required.
